Ensuring Optimal Communication: The Importance of RF Audits and Obstruction Analysis for Ground Stations 

In 2024, Av-Comm was contracted by Safran, to undertake a series of satellite ground station site surveys. Our technical field team conducted antenna Radio Frequency (RF) analysis and obstruction audits across four sites throughout Australia.

Our team’s mission was to analyse and document the RF environment and potential physical obstructions across these sites. The results of these audits have provided Safran with a practical understanding of the frequencies available for transmission and the physical landscape, ensuring their operations are compliant with regulatory standards. 

By understanding the existing RF landscape, we can select the most suitable frequencies for transmission, minimising the risk of interference and ensuring clear communication channels. Furthermore, identifying potential sources of interference allows us to address these issues proactively.  

Conducting an RF audit and obstruction analysis is a critical step in ensuring the maximum operational efficiency of any ground station and should always be undertaking before installing ground stations at new sites. 

Av-Comm Field Services Team are experienced in providing site surveys and conducting RF surveys throughout the APAC region. Our equipment allows us to survey all frequency bands from 200MHz to 50GHz using antenna horns and spectrum analysers as well as proprietary software to automate the measurement process.
