Local Satellite Manufacturing Opportunities Highlighted at 2022 ADM Congress

22 June 2022

Growing Australia’s defence space ecosystem was a key theme of the ADM Congress 2022 afternoon panel discussion at which Av-Comm Space & Defence Managing Director Michael Cratt spoke.

The ADM Congress is a pivotal event in the defence calendar, attracting more than 600 senior-level delegates which this year included Assistant Minister for Defence, Hon Matt Thistlethwaite, and Acting Head Land Capability Brigadier Ian Langford along with representatives from prime contractors and SMEs.

Av-Comm MD Michael Cratt discussed shifting the paradigm when it comes to Australian ground segment technologies. Michael also outlined Av-Comm’s active role in the pivot to manufacturing satellite ground stations here in Australia and the opportunities now opening up for Australian SMEs.

“For too long, Australia has been an importer or a buyer, and not an innovator,” Mr Cratt said.

Joining him on the panel were Shena Howell from Shoal Group, Russell Boyce from UNSW Canberra and Noel Borgas from LMA.
