Upkeep: Product Spotlight – Mylar
Ensuring that Mylar windows in feedhorns are in good condition is vital for maintaining optimal performance and longevity. Mylar windows protect the feedhorn from dust, water, and debris, which can degrade signal quality and cause interference (loss). It is critical to replace worn or damaged Mylar windows to maintain signal integrity and extends the feedhorn’s lifespan.
Using our specialised RADKEV R52 Mylar Feed Window Material for replacement offers several advantages, it is made from a composite material that includes Kevlar-infused fibreglass and PTFE, providing superior durability and UV resistance. This makes it more effective in harsh weather conditions and ensures a longer lifecycle compared to traditional Mylar.
Industry News: Deep Space Advanced Radar Capability Makes Tremendous Progress in First Year
We are excited to share the impressive progress of the Deep Space Advanced Radar Capability (DARC) project in its first year. This initiative between the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia aims to create a global network of advanced ground-based sensors to track small objects in geosynchronous orbit.
The first radar site in Western Australia was completed ahead of schedule in December 2024, with integration and testing of mission systems currently underway. This success is due to the significant contributions from various companies, including those specialising in satellite communications and radar installations right here in Australia.
The radar system’s ability to monitor space debris and potential adversarial actions is crucial for protecting satellite services.
