Upgrade, Don’t Replace – Av-Comm’s Antenna Refurbishment Solutions

Av-Comm is proud to announce a new refurbishment project in collaboration with the University of South Australia (UniSA), focused on enhancing their 6.8m X-band antenna system. This comprehensive upgrade includes:

  • Mechanical refurbishment and antenna maintenance
  • System and software enhancements
  • Upgraded control unit, feed as well as the antenna positioner

These improvements will empower UniSA to track their CubeSats and support future missions with greater precision and flexibility.
As part of this project, Av-Comm is delivering a custom-made heavy-duty pivot elevation and azimuth geometry, inspired by the evolution of our very own Cassowary antenna, exemplifying how existing infrastructure can be revitalized to moder mission requirements.

This counterweighted solution enables:

  • 360° azimuth rotation
  • 90° elevation movement in both directions
  • Tracking acceleration of 5° per second on both axes
  • Pointing accuracy of ±0.25°
  • Command capability across LEO, MEO, and GEO constellations

Partner Review

Amazon’s Project Kuiper marked a major milestone this week with the successful launch of 24 broadband satellites aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket, its third deployment and first collaboration with SpaceX. This brings the total number of Kuiper satellites in orbit to 78, advancing Amazon’s mission to deliver global high-speed internet access.

We are proud to support this transformative initiative through our partnership with Intellian, providing critical ground infrastructure. Recent installations have received outstanding feedback for their precision, reliability, and seamless integration with Kuiper’s evolving network. These successes underscore Av-Comm’s commitment to enabling next-generation connectivity through innovative satellite communications solutions.
