Kymeta was formed in 2012 for the express purpose to commercialise metamaterials in satellite communications and building an electronically-steerable antenna for satellite using metamaterial science.​ In 2017, Kymeta introduced the first-generation product, the Kymeta u7 terminal which leveraged the science and technology behind metamaterials.
